Walk in Time

People of all shapes and sizes come to Larung Gar Buddhist Academy in Seda in pursuit of knowledge. Regardless of age, every scholar shares the same passion for understanding Buddhism. Their commitment to faith is striking, and speaks to the human spirit.

These two photographs were captured in a temple where monks were chanting the Tibetan Book Of The Dead. Outside the temple, the family of the deceased gathered, silently praying.

These two photographs document the life of De La, a daughter of a nomadic Tibetan family. I used the stack of cow manure patties and the floral print of the tent as the background for the left and right photographs respectively. Both the tent and fuel manure are essential to nomadic life. Tibetan life roots deeply in nature, mingling with the soil of the grand Tibetan plateau.

This photograph was taken in the house of another nomad Tibetan family that I visited. Despite living in a very small space with limited resources, the family still managed to reserve a room in their home for religious icons and dharmas.
